Artist admits the truth that "harem" is NOT about "naked concubines" as foolishly art-gossiped by many orientalists. It refers to the part of the house where women of the family spend time for privacy from male family members & their friends. Outsiders required permission to enter. Delacroix had a Muslim friend who owned a house; so the artist was allowed to briefly visit.
